A dad's word, first.
My son doesn't talk yet. His strongest sound is “ba-ba”. In Vietnamese, ba means dad, and so does baba in Arabic, Persian and many other languages. So the first word he can almost say is the one I most want to hear.
Picture communication books work, but they are slow to make and easy to leave at home. I wanted the book on a tablet, with the same pictures on every device, and new words I can add from my phone wherever I am.
That's Babawords: from ba-ba to words.
— Ba
The picture book, rebuilt for a tablet
| The book on your shelf | Babawords |
|---|---|
| A sentence strip on the back cover, in reach on every page | A sentence bar at the top of every screen |
| Velcro pages with tabs for food, feelings, play | A grid of picture cards with category tabs |
| Large, small and mini books as your child grows | Four card sizes. Cards stay in the same place when the tablet turns |
| Pictures printed, cut, laminated and velcroed by hand | A photo from your camera, or a picture drawn by AI in one calm style |
| A new card means a printer, scissors and an evening | Add a word from your own phone. It appears on your child's tablet |
| Nearly indestructible | Works offline, and settings stay behind a grown-ups' button |
Show it, then hear it
Picture communication works because a child hands a picture to a person. A talker that just speaks skips that moment. In Babawords, a finished sentence fills the screen, your child turns the tablet to you, and it is spoken when you tap. Asking, and being answered, stays part of every sentence.
You can switch this step off once your child is ready.

Questions parents ask
Who is Babawords for?
Children who don't speak yet or who speak a little: autistic children, children with speech delay or apraxia, and anyone who finds pictures easier than words. It is built for ages two and up, used together with a grown-up.
Does it replace speech therapy?
No. Babawords is a communication tool, not therapy. Speech-language therapists often recommend picture communication alongside therapy. Show your child's therapist the boards and set them up together.
Does it work without the internet?
Yes. The whole book lives on the device, voices included. Changes sync the next time the device is online.
Which languages does it speak?
The free device voice speaks the languages your phone or tablet supports, including English and Vietnamese. Each child's book can use its own language.
Can grandparents and teachers use it too?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on their phone or tablet and the same book appears there, with every picture and recording.
What happens to my child's words if I stop Premium?
Nothing is taken away. Every picture, AI voice and recording you made stays in the book and keeps working. Only making new AI pictures, voices and recordings stops.
